On the 30th of October 2010, Inspire Community teamed up with Missions Australia for our annual Children’s Week Event. Held at Willan Drive Park, on one of the hottest days of spring we still managed to have an incredible 500 people attend the Children’s Week Event.
John Leech, a representative from Mission Australia for Children’s Week, and Joanne Perry from Inspire Community hosted the event this year, encouraging people to come and join the fun.
There were many activities and games held for the children who attended. Playgroup from Sadlier came and set up an area for toddlers and babies. For the older kids there was face painting, a jumping castle, carnival games with prizes for any winners and a clown! Even the Emergency Services Local SES and Fire Brigade attended showing off their vehicles to the children and answering questions.
The adults didn’t miss out, with live Islander and Australian bands performing the entire day. Twenty lucky draws were also carried out with prizes such as toys, beauty products, photo albums, and IPods given away to the winners. The information stalls gave out free gifts and food, such as the show bag, the apple spirals made by the Health Stand and the Grandmas Stand had a nice shaded tea area for women. And their baked cakes were a complete success!
Everyone who attended received a free sausage sizzle and drinks were given out through the day. But the most popular stand, especially for the kids, was no doubt the Snow Cone Stand which appeared to always have a line.
The day also came with a few surprise guests including MP Chris Hayes, MP Paul Lynch and the State President of AOG in N.S.W, Pastor John McMartin. All three said that they were impressed with the entire event. “We should definitely have more of these events, they are a great idea and a great way for the community to connect” - Paul Lynch.
We would like to thank the volunteers from Inspire Church, Inspire Community, Emergency Services Local SES and Fire Brigade and the volunteers from the local community. The day never would have gone so smoothly without you. Also a huge thank you to all donations made by The Hub, Blooms Chemist, Doin’Donuts, Foodbank, OH Furniture and the local Grandmas who helped greatly by donating gifts, food and furniture. Your donations made a huge difference to the event!
We hope to see everyone back for another successful Children’s Week Event this year and many years to come!
