Wow what a great beginning for the combined X=Change program at Liverpool Sports World, the first night has given the team an opportunity to impact 60 selected participants through workshops, friendly competition of soccer and a great dinner cooked by our passionate volunteers.
The night was on the fast track from the first person to walk through the doors. We had the buses going out to Lurnea and Miller picking up the participants of our current programs and any friends or family who wanted to come along to watch the games.
As the kids walked upstairs to the dinning area they were greeted with a home cooked meal of lasagne sponsored by Euro Café, and as they were eating, there was the anticipation for what the night will have install for them. They were then put into their teams and introduced to their leader.
The soccer games were a success with each team playing 2 games in a round robin style of competition, with each team consisting of a mix of young and old, male and female. All players rose to the occasion making the games an enjoyable and memorable part of the night.
During the night there was a workshop on Self-Esteem being held, in which each team got the opportunity to participate. The workshops have been placed into the program to give the kids a more formal and structured way of learning. Each week we run a different workshop with a different topic that helps young people face the challenges in their lives. The workshops have been tailored to be uplifting and rewarding to the kids and their communities.
As the end of the night approached there was a feeling of joy and accomplishment in the air, we shared with the kids our thoughts and life experiences to encourage the kids to come to x-change with an open heart and a willingness to learn and grow. The night ended as a huge success with all thanks to the team of hard working volunteers and the kids who participated.
