Thanks to the Liverpool Rotary Club sponsorship we had the opportunity to take the youth from our X=Change program to camp at the Cataract Scout Park in Sydney.

Both our X=Change youth and our leaders were able to participate in a variety of fun activities provided by the park directors. There was swimming, archery, cave exploring, and Challenge Valley that literally lives up to its name. Challenge Valley is an obstacle course that makes you climb, crawl, and even get drenched in mud and water.

These obstacles challenged some of us both physically as well as mentally on things like fear of heights and agility. Overall the obstacles showed the kids that they can overcome anything that life may throw at them.

The most encouraging thing for us was that we were able to take our X=Change kids from their normal everyday life and everyday surroundings, to a place that would allow us to get them out of their comfort zone. So then we could teach them things like interacting with new people and public speaking, through team building activities.

One of the team building challenges consisted on different teams trying to build the largest standing tower made out of straws and marshmallows. This challenge helped the kids realise the importance of team work. It taught them how to follow direction from other members on there team, how to plan strategically and how to work together to get the job done. This was a great exercise that showed all the people that we can get things done if we all work together as a team.

The time at the camp was amazing, we got to talk with our X=Change guys about the importance of goal setting and we shared topics like our value systems. Because we believe that if you have some realistic goals as well as a good work ethic and a healthy value system you have a great head start in life.

Overall we wanted to see the kids gain some tools and strategies that will help them on the journey of life.

We had a great time!
