Being a single mother of two (my son a chronic asthmatic and suffering from belpausy and often off school which even with my education and wide range in skills and experiences it is hard for me to keep a job when I am required to take time off for him).
We live with my parents and my grandmother in a 3 bedroom house, this most of the time is unbearable as no privacy or room and on the single mothers pension I was in a dilemma and had contacted various Community Services, who was not of much assistance with clothing, counselling, and food vouchers.
When I called Vantage Community Services on 18th May 2005 they listened to my needs and assisted me with food and clothing vouchers, which I was so appreciative.
I spoke to Ella in regards to the work and services provided at Vantage and I was extremely impressed, for I have many experiences in fundraising as I have been involved with Westmead Hospital for over 14 yrs fundraising for my son goes there for treatments a lot. And with my kids school I have organised many functions, fetes, discos, trivia nights, auctions and raffles that I offered my services as a volunteer and returned the next week 26/27th May 2005 to assist Mirtha Pizzorno with the Food Share.
I have helped Mirtha for the last two monthly Food Share sorting, packing and prepare the food hampers with adequate and good quality food to assist and meet the needs of those who come monthly for these hampers and seeing the expression and joy on their faces when they see what they get, makes me wonder how many more needy families out there that I would love to put that same joy on their faces and what Vantage can provide for them if given the opportunity.
Since then I have met Marta Faggiano (Welfare Manager) and have been assisting her with sponsors, grants, and donations for renovating the Community Centre at Sadlier, as well as, getting sponsors, donations, memorabilias, donated function room and dinner at cost price for the Auction Night to raise money for Vantage. I volunteer 3 days a week and I have been for the past 2 months.

I enjoy the distraction from my present lifestyle, to assisting the local community again as well as utilising my skills and experiences to fulfil the needs of Vantage Community Services in fundraising and in Food Share. And I accomplish this by the generosity of businesses and companies I have contacted who understand and are willing to assist and support fellow Australians in need by what they have to offer so that Vantage can assist and provide support to the local community. I gain great satisfaction from being here and being able to assist in a great and needed cause, for there are so many underprivileged people and families out there with no where to go or direct them on a path to better or further themselves.
